I skipped
the morning screening of Young Adam, starring Ewen McGregor. I was told
afterward that it was basically about Ewen’s character sleeping
with a lot of women. And he showed his, quote: “package.”
The afternoon film was Claude Chabrol’s new film The Flower of Evil. It was a
slightly twisted film involving a bourgeoisie family that’s arguably incestuous.
There didn’t seem to be a great deal of tension throughout most of it, even
though there’d been a set-up for the mayhem early on. It mostly played like an
austere family drama, with lots of jokes made at America's expense. Then the
accidental killing of a person occurred. Followed by a happy ending.
Unfortunately, just after the murder when a key piece of motivation was being
delivered, somebody’s cell phone started ringing. And they didn’t stop it. Then
people started yelling for it to be turned off. It was such a distraction that
nobody got that important bit of exposition. I was even talking about it with
Jami Bernard outside.
We decided that we’d keep asking around and somebody would eventually know. As
of writing this, Saturday afternoon, I still don’t know.
